Kitchens sell homes, but you don't need a gut renovation to get most of the benefit. Here's where dollars turn into value.

## High return, moderate cost

- **Cabinet refacing or paint** — new doors and hardware, or a quality repaint, transform a kitchen for a fraction of replacement.
- **Hardware and faucet** — the jewelry of the kitchen; a same-day, high-impact swap.
- **Lighting** — under-cabinet LEDs plus a decent overhead fixture make the whole room read as updated.

## Worth it if the budget allows

Quartz or butcher-block counters, a tile backsplash, and a single statement appliance (usually the range) deliver visible upgrades. You rarely need to replace *all* appliances at once — matching finishes matters more than matching age.

## Diminishing returns

Fully custom cabinetry, pro-grade appliances, and moving the sink or range plumbing cost the most and return the least at resale. Great if it's your forever kitchen; questionable if you're prepping to sell.

## The cheapest upgrade of all

Declutter the counters and deep-clean. An organized, uncrowded kitchen photographs and shows better than an expensive but messy one.
